This printing ad is from Sisley, a Paris high-end fashion clothing brand. As seen in the ad, two girls, who are wearing glamorous, are doing “fashion” drug. This advertisement really concerns me when I first saw the campaign. This Sisley “Fashion Junkie” ad not only publicizes on illegal actions but also propagate materialism.
I understand the advertiser wants to advertise on fashion obsession. However, the approach they used is extremely unappreciated. Drug abuse is illegal action, no matter what kind of artistic effect one wants to achieve, it should not be used. Also this ad is advertised on a lifestyle, which is fashion. The main target consumer is young people or even teenagers. I believe their priority should be their school work instead of fashion. This advertising is extremely unethical. The advertiser should and have to realize their ethical responsibility in social society.
I personally think the advertiser change the whole approach. I think the “Fashion Junkie” concept is great, but they do need to change the theme of the advertisement.
Wow, hold up! check out how they spelled "FASHION" ? "Fashioin"??? There must be some implication in the ad!!! Is that means this ad is just a fake message? Or only because the designer have taken too much drugs? LOL~~Anyway, this idea is awsome.I love it. Sisley seems to be catching up with the trend these years.

I don't like this print ad, it combines sex and drug, which can lead to bad influence on teenages. I know its objects to show fashion to young people, but the approach they used is not appreciated. They should use a normal method rather than drugs and sex.----XU ZHANG
ReplyDeleteAs a famous fashion brand this advertisement delivered very negative message to the public, especially to those young people who love fashion but do not have certain judgment. Drug addiction is a serious social problem and especially among young people. Many fashion conscious young people may see everything relate to fashion as cool and worth replicating. This would mislead those young people in lifestyle and even values.

At first sight, I really amazed by the creative thought of this print ads. For me personally, I am ok with this ads, because I am adult and I can tell distinguish the creative part from the drug abuse part and I know how to appreciate this ads from art perspective.
ReplyDeleteHowever, what I am concerned is adolescents, they are more easily affected by the visible environment and are easily indulged in pursuing so called fashion, which in most cases means cool, rebellion. In this sense, this ads are not appropriate.

I have to admit, when I first saw this it was pretty disturbing..and really a scary representation on society's obsession with fashion....good post!

It seems like this is a fake ad. I have to admit that it is quite creative, but still unethical. It also stereotypes women who work closely with the world of fashion as being junkies. Teenagers are prone to being influenced by fashion and drugs, so I'm glad that this was actually a fake ad.

I admit this ads is creative. The fashone brand SISLEY show how attractive its cloth can be. Howerver, the print ads imply that taking drug is also cool and fashion. Teenagers are likely to be seduced to take real drug when watching this. It is good that this ads has not been released.

ReplyDeleteI feel bad about this poster. I could not understand why Sisley choose to advertise this. Sisley's clothes are fashion and of course people love it. But looking at the poster, especially the girl's evil eyes, I feel uncomfortable. It even makes me feel resisting. I don't want to look like a drug person no matter how much I like this brand. The message sent from this ad is really unappealing to me, a person who considers fashion should be pleasant to human beings.

Frankly, this idea is pretty good and I like it. However, since the target market of this brand is young generation, who are very vulnerable to the devil's temptation and go astray. Showing the drug taking behavior to the public is inappropriate. A lot of young people might be curious about what it is and how to do it, but this print ad would answer and teach them!!!

It seems that it is the Sisley’s style to make the controversial ads. From the effectiveness angle, this piece of ad is successful. On one hand, it attracts more attention from consumers for its controversy. On the other hand, it really attracts the target audiences and is loved by young people, because the quite contrary action demonstrated by the ad caters for young people who are wayward. But from ethic angle, I think it is not a good ad that will cause bad influence on young people.

As a parent of two children I agree with A+ that this is a negative ad. It glamourizes drug use even though the actual subject of the drug use is the clothing and not a drug. -MCarroll
ReplyDeleteI think fashion should encourage the health and possitive life stytle becasue fashion is what youngs are follow. So the company should not convey the message that drug is fashion issues,
